Raburu on Child Loss, Divorce: I Would Host Show Then Cry All The Way Home

Citizen TV show host Willis Raburu revisited his painful and difficult past when he had to divorce his ex-wife Marya Prude(Mary Irungu) coupled with the loss of their two babies.

In an interview with Massawe Japanni on Radio Jambo, Raburu admitted he wasn’t the husband he should have been to Marya after the loss.

The ’10 Over 10′ show host said their marriage took a big hit after the loss of their second baby in December 2019. He admitted that he didn’t know how to cope.

“It was hard going through grief alone. I had a few friends who formed my support system at that time. When grieving, you would probably have two people beside you and none will allow you to fully grieve your child. It was an empty void and I didn’t know how to cope,” he said.

Raburu also disclosed that he turned to the bottle in the initial stages after his child passed. He also said he had no energy to host his Friday night show but he had to keep up appearances.

“It was extremely tough and painful, especially my show you need energy, so it became an acting gig. I would get into the show, do it then cry all the way home,” he said.

Reflecting on what could have gone wrong in the marriage, Raburu said they both lost themselves at some point. He said he initiated divorce proceedings when he noticed their relationship was no longer working for either of them.

“I am happy that even though we lost ourselves I always say I respect her because she was the mother of my daughter I am the one who initiated the process…you’ve lost your daughter then now you’re like I am losing my wife,” he said, adding that it was an extremely painful moment of his life that he would not wish on anybody.

“…unfortunately, it happened (divorce). Nobody goes into a marriage with hopes to come out. I am happy that we lost ourselves. We divorced officially and I moved on,” Raburu added.

Meanwhile, Marya Prude recently put out an emotional social media post celebrating herself for overcoming tough battles.

She captioned an old #TBT video: “Allow me to love on this woman here, during this time her world was falling apart, she was battling panic attacks, spiritual attacks, ulcers, depression, suicidal ideation, grief, it was difficult to breath, everything she thought was familiar or regarded as home was strange and scary.

“Nevertheless, she made the best decision of her life, while in so much pain, with the small wisdom and knowledge she had at that particular time. Damn! I’m so proud of her 🥰 I wish I could go back in time and hug her and let her know, her latter days are better and brighter.🥹

“So if you’re going through a dark tough time right now, I would like to send you hugs and assure you, it’s going to get better 😘
