Wetangula Resigned Day After Winning Bungoma Senator Race

No sooner had Moses Wetangula retained his seat as Bungoma Senator than he tendered his resignation.

The Ford Kenya party leader on Wednesday confirmed that he had resigned to seek the National Assembly Speaker’s post which was promised to him by Ruto before the elections.

Wetangula said he had prior submitted his resignation papers after winning the election.

“The documents I have presented to the clerk include my resignation as a Senator. Which resignation I did a day after the gazettement of my election,” Wetangula told the media at Parliament buildings.

“…If you read the constitution, any MP who wishes to resign resigns to the Speaker, and I resigned to the Speaker.”

In line with their pre-election agreement, the Kenya Kwanza has fronted Wetangula as its candidate for National Assembly Speaker.

Wetangula will square it out against Azimio La Umoja’s Kenneth Marende for the coveted position.

The William Ruto-led camp also nominated Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss as Wetangula’s to deputise Wetangula.

“Kenya Kwanza unanimously endorsed Amason Kingi as our candidate for Senate Speaker and will be deputized by Senator Kathuri from Meru and my distinguished deputy will be Boss Gladys, the Woman Rep from Uasin Gishu,” Wetangula said.

Meanwhile, Wetang’ula has endorsed his longest-serving personal assistant Wafula Wakoli to take over as the next Bungoma County Senator.
